Fractured Lace offers beautifully crafted jewelry and accessories, each individually made with an artist’s touch and impeccable attention to detail. Each piece has been designed to make a statement, show your story, and to celebrate the incredible person that is you.
Working primarily in acrylic, Australian artist and designer Kat Johnston works in a whimsical, enchanting style with recurring motifs of flora, fauna and food, with a particular focus on creating wearable art such as brooches, necklaces and earrings.
Every Fractured Lace piece is hand-crafted with an artist’s touch in her cozy New Farm studio.
She sees her pieces as a form of self-expression for those who wear them – a way for people to make a statement, show their personality, and shout from the rooftops: ‘This is me! And you know what? I am exceptional.’
Because you are. We all are! We should find joy in the things that make us different and unique. (Oh… It doesn’t hurt that they’re excellent conversation-starters too!)

What’s in a name?

Have you ever noticed that when we talk about stories, we often speak in terms that we would otherwise use with textile-based handicrafts? We talk about spinning a yarn, about stringing words together – about weaving a tale and tying up loose ends. Thus, we have lace: a beautiful representation of a richly detailed story.
Then why fractured? I loved studying semiotics – the study of signs and symbology; breaking down how we communicate, even non-verbally. Each item someone chooses to wear tells us something about them. People pick and choose from their dressers and drawers to find the perfect pieces to wear each morning. Individually, those elements may be fractured and fragmented – but then they come together to represent who you are on that particular day.
So putting it all together, we have Fractured Lace: beautifully crafted accessories that help you tell your story.
